How Inquisicook Achieved 300% Enrollment Growth Using Animaker

Angela Smith
Founder | Inquisicook

This case study shows how Inquisicook changed its online culinary education with Animaker.
Find out how the company achieved over 300% enrollment growth, created engaging
educational videos without a production team, and made culinary science exciting for learners of
all ages.

Meet Angela Smith, the founder of Inquisicook. This family-owned educational company
combines food science and culinary arts through hands-on courses. Her goal is to make
cooking an applied science, helping families understand the "why" behind every recipe.

With a small team and limited production resources, making professional educational videos
was tough. Now, thanks to Animaker, Angela creates engaging lessons using a custom
teaching avatar and a mix of animation and live-action footage. This approach makes complex
culinary concepts easy to grasp and fun to learn.

Now, let’s hear her story.

The Challenge

Creating educational videos was one of the biggest challenges for our small team.

Hiring a full video production staff just wasn't practical. I am the voice and director of the
development process, but I can't be in front of the camera explaining concepts and behind the
camera managing the filming process at the same time.

We needed a way to create engaging educational content while staying true to our teaching
style.

Why Animation?

Using a custom animated avatar as the "teacher" for our courses lets us rethink the classroom
experience and connect with students in a visually appealing way.

It's also simple to add live-action footage to Animaker videos, which allows us to combine
animation with actual cooking demonstrations. This approach helps students grasp the science
of cooking while watching those ideas applied in real recipes.

Discovering Animaker

I spent months researching various animation tools, reading reviews, and analyzing their
features before deciding to take Animaker's free trial offer for a spin.

One of the major factors influencing my decision to try out Animaker was its user-friendliness. I
needed to produce a lot of educational content, and I couldn't afford to spend too much time
learning the application. With the help of tutorials, I started using it right away, and it wasn't that
complicated.

I really loved Animaker’s lip-sync feature, which brought my teaching avatar to life with my own
voice. Plus, we had the option of adding our own images to the videos or using the ones
included in our Animaker plan.

The software's modern appearance and customization options allowed us to create videos that
fit well with our concept. And because the animations appeal to different age groups, there were
no limitations in terms of the target audience.

Bringing Culinary Science to Life

Today, my teaching avatar looks just like me, and because I record all the voiceovers myself,
she also sounds like me, with a southern twang and all. That means every lesson reflects my
personality as I deliver original instruction.

Today, our offerings include Inquisicook 1 and Inquisicook 2, each featuring 75 lessons that
combine food science with hands-on cooking experiences. We are also currently developing
Inquisicook Junior, a new program designed to introduce young children to the world of
culinary science.

Using Animaker, we create lesson videos that explain the science of cooking and show students
how to apply that science by preparing delicious recipes.

One example is our Chicken Paprikash lesson from Inquisicook 2, which showcases how
animation and live-action footage work together to create an engaging learning experience.

The Results

Animaker has enabled us to produce a growing library of high-quality educational videos at a
fraction of the cost of outsourcing production.

These have led to enrollment that grows every year by more than 300%. And our customers
keep requesting more courses from us.

Following up on this success, Inquisicook Junior will be released in 2026, offering lessons for
children aged 5 years and up.

What We Love About Animaker

Three things stand out the most:

  • • Ease of use
  • • Cost-effectiveness
  • • Responsive technical support

Those three qualities have enabled us to focus more on creating engaging educational
experiences and less on the complexities of video production.

Looking Ahead

Nothing beats the satisfaction of teaching people how to cook what’s in season, what’s on sale,
or what’s in the fridge, and science is the key. This has always been our goal: to turn curious
students into intuitive cooks, not just recipe followers.

We’re looking forward to launching our next project, Inquisicook Junior, where we’ll introduce
the youngest generation to the concept of culinary science.
