How Diyan Reduced Video Production Time by 80% with Animaker?

Diyan
Educator and researcher working in UK higher education

This case study shows how Diyan, an academic and researcher, used Animaker to transform her research and educational ideas into engaging animated stories.

She uses animation to communicate her research on inclusive reading lists and to develop engaging teaching and learning materials.

Although she had no prior animation experience, using Animaker, she was able to cut her video production time by about 70 to 80%. The content got great results, extending the reach of her research beyond the usual face-to-face classroom distribution.

Now, let's hear from Diyan about how she found success communicating her ideas to the masses through visual stories.

The Challenge

Just as many researchers and educators do, I wished to go beyond conventional research papers and presentations and to find more engaging methods of communicating important ideas.

I needed a solution that was affordable and didn't take weeks to produce.

The aim was to turn difficult ideas into simple and easy-to-remember stories which people could understand, remember and pass on.

Why Animation?

Animation seemed to be the ideal medium since it brings together storytelling, visuals, and sound in order to make complicated ideas more interesting.

I wanted to present my research in a medium that would be understandable and interesting to both an academic and a general public audience. I felt Animation was the right format that would help me express the information in a more accessible and engaging form.

Discovering Animaker

I had never worked with animation before. I looked at a number of cloud-based animation programs and used their free versions until I came across one that was suitable for me.

Upon finding Animaker, I was immediately impressed by both its intuitive interface and the range of creative features it offered.

I found it much easier and less time-consuming to learn the platform. Since the variety of templates, characters, backgrounds, assets, music, and other creative tools was so easy to use, I fell in love with it immediately.

As my skills improved, the Animaker support team were also there to answer my questions and give me advice whenever I needed them.

Bringing Research to Life

Here’s the first animation that I made using Animaker as a newbie.

As a researcher, I wanted to find a new and interesting format to present my research on inclusive reading lists, and this is how the story One Awesome Reading List That Changed My Mindset came about.

The animation was distributed at institutional learning and teaching events and at external conferences, so that it could be seen by university colleagues and other professional audiences.

In the next three years, the feedback given by the viewers was positive and very encouraging.

The Results

70–80% Less Production Time

Before I used Animaker, video production used to take up most of my day. Juggling a full-time job as an educator and a content creator was too difficult.

Animaker reduced my video production time by around 70–80%, allowing me to create professional-looking animations in days rather than weeks, without specialist animation skills or expensive production support.

10+ Animated Videos at conferences

I've built a growing portfolio of more than 10 animated videos, which I use at conferences, classrooms, and research dissemination activities.

Funding for Further Development

My experience using animation and other creative approaches also encouraged me to develop new teaching and learning resources. I subsequently secured funding to further develop this work.

Looking Ahead

Science has the greatest effect when people are able to understand it, identify with it, and put it into practice in their day-to-day lives.

What started with my first animation about inclusive reading lists has become an important part of how I communicate research, develop teaching resources, and engage people with important topics.

While I carry on with my work, I am looking forward to producing more animated stories which make research and educational subjects accessible, and get people involved with significant issues.
