Windows Movie Maker is a part of the Windows Essentials Suite 2012 and Microsoft ended the support for this suite way back in 2010. However, you can download the offline installer using this download link we’ve retrieved from Microsoft’s official site using Wayback Machine. This is the copy of the link that Microsoft had provided to download the installer for the Essentials Suite back when it still supported it.

  1. Double-click the installer file to begin the installation process. Now in the opening window, select Choose the programs you want to install.

  2. In the next window, tick the Photo Gallery and Movie Maker checkbox. You likely won’t need the other tools in the suite, so you can untick the other checkboxes. Once you’ve decided on the tools you’d need, go ahead and click on the Install button at the bottom of the installation wizard window.

  3. Once Windows Movie Maker is installed, open it. Then import the video you want to rotate. The easiest way to import a video is to simply drag and drop it onto the app window.

  4. Now it’s time to rotate the video you just imported. From the main menu, select Home and head to the Editing section. There, you’ll see the two rotate buttons, Rotate left and Rotate right. Click on the Rotate left button to rotate your video counterclockwise. And click on the Rotate right button to rotate your video clockwise. You can rotate the video by 90, 180, or 270 degrees.

  5. Once you’re done rotating the video, you need to save it. From the main menu bar, click on the File menu and then select Save movie. You’ll then need to pick a resolution for your video you just rotated. If you’re unsure about the device or resolution, simply select Recommended for this project.

Photos is the app that’s used to open your images by default on Windows 10. It comes preinstalled on Windows 10, and you can use it to edit and rotate your videos. Here’s how to rotate a video using the Photos app:

  1. First, open the Photos app. You can find it in the start menu. If it’s not in your menu, simply press start and type Photos into the search bar.

  2. Then, create a new project. To start a blank video project, you can either click on the big blue box with a plus icon that says New video project, or click on the New video button in the top right corner of the app window and select New video project from the dropdown menu.

  3. In the next window, click on the blue button that says Add to import the video you want to rotate.

  4. Once the video’s been imported, click on the Place in the storyboard button in the top right corner to add the video to the storyboard.

  5. Now, you can find the Rotate button right below the preview window in the bottom right corner of the app screen. Click on the button to rotate your video by 90, 180, or 270 degrees.

  6. Once you are done rotating your video and are happy with your video’s orientation, click on the Finish video button in the top right corner of the app window. Then pick a resolution for your video. Finally, click on Export.

Optionally, you can also open it using Windows Media Player. You’ll then see that the video’s orientation has been fixed.

You can use the iMovie app to rotate your videos on your iPhone. If you don’t have the iMovie app on your iPhone, you can download and install iMovie for iOS

Once you’ve installed iMovie on your iPhone or iPad, follow these steps:

  1. Open the iMovie app and tap on the Create Project button.

  4. Next, to select the video you want to rotate, tap on the area that says Tap + to add videos, photos, or audio.

  8. Now use your thumb and index fingers to tap and twist the video to the right or left so you rotate the video clockwise or counterclockwise. When you do this, a white circular arrow will appear indicating the direction in which you’re rotating the video.

How to Rotate a Video in iMovie on Mac

iMovie is a freeware that comes preinstalled on Mac OS. Follow the steps below to rotate a video using iMovie desktop software on Mac:

  1. Open iMovie and click on the Create New button.

  3. Click on the Import Media button and select the video you want to rotate.

  4. Once the video’s been imported, click on it to select the video—the video will be highlighted in yellow to indicate that it’s been selected.

  5. Click on the Cropping button in the toolbar right above the video player. This will reveal the Rotate the clip clockwise and Rotate the clip counterclockwise buttons.

  6. Note that you can only save your video in the 16:9 aspect ratio (or horizontal dimensions) using iMovie. There isn’t a way to save your video in the vertical dimensions (or 9:16 aspect ratio). Once you rotate your landscape video to be vertical in iMovie, two black bars will appear on either side of the video. And you’re going to have to save the video with those black bars.Optionally, you can also flip your video using iMovie. simply clicking Rotate the clip clockwise button twice will flip the video vertically. To flip the video horizontally, however, you’re going to have to apply a filter. First, click on the Clip filter and audio effects button, then click on the Clip Filter field, and finally, pick the Flipped filter to flip your video horizontally.

  1. First, create a new project. Go to File > New.

  5. There are two steps to removing audio from a video in Premiere Pro. First, you separate the audio from the video. To do this, right-click on the video from the timeline and select Unlink from the resulting dropdown menu.

  6. Second, now that you’ve separated the audio from the video, you can delete the audio. To delete the audio, you can either select the audio layer by clicking on it and hitting the delete key or right-click on the audio layer you just unlinked from the video and select Clear from the dropdown.

If you want to add a voiceover, you’ve got three ways to do that: you can record your own voiceover, upload a voiceover file, or generate voiceover using text. To add a voiceover, click on the Video Timeline icon, then click on the Voiceover icon in the bottom left corner of the app screen, and pick an option from the dropdown menu.

In your Project panel, go to the Effects tab, click on the Distort dropdown, and double-click Transform from the resulting dropdown menu. Then, untick the Uniform Scale checkbox. Now change the number beside Scale Width or Scale Height to -100 to flip your video horizontally or vertically.

The settings you’d modified using the steps above will be applied to all the videos you play using VLC. To permanently rotate your video, follow the steps below:

  1. From the main menu, select Tools > Preferences.

  2. In the Simple Preferences window, under the Show settings section, click on the All radio button.

For those who are unaware of Animaker, it is an all-in-one DIY video making app designed to help non-designers make professional-quality videos from the comfort of their browser.

Step 1: Sign Up/Sign In and Pick the Dimensions

First, sign in to your account or create a free one. Now choose the dimensions or the aspect ratio you’d want your output video to be in. You can pick Square, Landscape, or Vertical from the Create a video section in your dashboard. Or, use the Custom Size button to set your own custom dimensions.

Step 2: Upload the Video and Remove the Audio From It

Now upload the video you want to mute or remove audio from. Animaker allows you to upload videos up to 20 GB in size. Head to the Upload tab in the main navigation bar and click on the Upload button at the bottom of the tab window.

Now click on it to set it onto the canvas of your chosen dimensions.

Then, click on the scissor button as shown in the image below.

Now in the popup window that appears next, you’ll find a yellow speaker icon in the bottom right corner.

Click on the yellow speaker icon to mute or remove audio from your video. Once you click on the icon, you’ll notice that it’ll display the mute icon to indicate that the sound has been removed. Now click on the round green button in the bottom right corner to save the changes.

Optionally, you can also add a voiceover, or add background music to your video. If you want to add a voiceover, you’ve got three ways to do that: you can record your own voiceover, upload a voiceover file, or generate voiceover using text. To add a voiceover, click on the Video Timeline icon, then click on the Voiceover icon in the bottom left corner of the app screen, and pick an option from the dropdown menu.

To add background music to your video, simply head to the Music tab and pick a background music track from our huge, free music library.

Step 3: Preview and Download

You can preview the video by clicking on the play button beside the Share button. You can then download the video to your computer by clicking on the Publish button and then selecting Download Video from the dropdown menu. Or share it directly to various social media platforms from within the app.
